Establishment of Association of Memorial Service
April 8, 1952 | At the 24th board meeting of the National League of War-Damaged Cities (established in 1947 with the primary goal of war-damage reconstruction), a proposal was made to build a "National Memorial Tower for Non-Combatant Air Raid Victims of the Pacific War." [Purpose] "To offer condolences and prayers to the souls of those who died in aerial bombings and other acts during the Pacific War, other than military personnel, and to symbolize the heartfelt desire for lasting world peace." |
May 17, 1952 | After the 10th regular general meeting of the National League of War-Damaged Cities (Fukui City), the inaugural general meeting of the National Association for Memorial Services for Victims of Air Raids in War-Damaged Cities in the Pacific War (113 member cities) was held. The location of the memorial tower was decided to be Himeji City. |
June 13, 1952 | The board of directors changed the name of the association from "memorial tower (Kuyotou)" to "memorial tower (Ireitou)." Accordingly, the association's name was changed to "Pacific War National Association for the Memorial of Victims of Air Raids on War-Damaged Cities." The secretariat was established in Himeji City. |
